Congratulations are in order for Nicole Nagle, MA Counseling student and recipient of the New Jersey Counseling Association’s (NJCA) Outstanding Graduate Student Award!

This award recognizes a graduate student currently enrolled in a New Jersey counseling program that has made a significant contribution in the field of counseling. The nominee must possess exemplary counseling skills, have good research and writing skills, be committed to the profession, and be involved in extracurricular activities related to counseling. Nicole was nominated by Dr. Sandy Gibson and selected by NJCA as the sole recipient from various counseling students throughout the state of New Jersey.

We wish Nicole all the best as she moves on from TCNJ! Thank you Nicole for your hard work and dedication to the field of counseling; you’ve represented TCNJ well!

Congratulations to Dr. Michele Lise Tarter, Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator for the MA English Program, whose co-edited book BURIED LIVES: INCARCERATION IN EARLY AMERICA has just been published by the University of Georgia Press.

Dr. Mark S. Woodford, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Counselor Education, has published his first book, MEN, ADDICTION, AND INTIMACY: STRENGTHENING RECOVERY BY FOSTERING THE EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF BOYS AND MEN, which is due out in May 2012 (Routledge Mental Health).

Dr. Yiqiang Wu, Teaching English as a Second Language Graduate Program Coordinator and Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy, was recently awarded a $2 million grant by the U.S. Department of Education.

Dr. Alan Amtzis, Director of The College of New Jersey’s Masters of Education Program in Educational Leadership: Instruction, has been appointed academic co-editor of The Educational Forum (Kappa Delti Pi).

Kristen Dunleavy

Kristen Dunleavy – Graduate Studies Alumna and Local Hero!

Kristen Dunleavy is a two time TCNJ alumna. Graduating from TCNJ with her BA in Special Education in 2004, Kristen went on to complete her MA in School Counseling with TCNJ, finishing in 2006.

Six years later Kristen is a successful teacher, role model, and active community member. In celebration of National Mobility Awareness month, and as a tribute to her perseverance, independent nature, and community service, Kristen was nominated by her sisters, Colleen and Caitlin Dunleavy, as a Local Hero. With this nomination Kristen is in the running to win a new wheelchair accessible vehicle from The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding mobility options for people with disabilities.
